Respiratory therapists (RTs) evaluate, treat and maintain cardiopulmonary (heart and lung) function. They treat people with disorders affecting the cardiopulmonary system such as asthma or COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). The RT works with physicians and health care staff to develop patient care plans to treat, care and cope with their respiratory issues.
